L’architettura per le mani / Handling architecture
Stefano Boeri Architetti, Alfonso Femia,
Maurizio Varratta, Cino Zucchi, 967 Arch:
five architecture firms and five handles
for the 50th anniversary of Dnd
from 17 to 21 April 2018
at the Lualdi showroom,
Brera Design District – Foro Buonaparte 74
For the FuoriSalone 2018, Dnd presents a project hosted by the Lualdi showroom in the heart of the Brera Design District.
To involve architects who had never – or seldom – focused on product design, inviting them to create a handle: this was the challenge formulated by Dnd, based on an idea of Giulio Iacchetti – art director of the Brescia-based company – suggested to five architecture firms with an Italian background very active on an international level. All five responded with enthusiasm to the call issued a few months ago.
Stefano Boeri Architetti, Alfonso Femia, Maurizio Varratta, Cino Zucchi and 967Arch have worked for months together with Giulio Iacchetti and the Dnd staff to develop five new products that reflect five different ways of thinking about single design theme.
During the FuoriSalone, the handles designed by the five studios will be presented – installed on Lualdi doors – in a setting created by Francesco Librizzi.
During Milan Design Week Dnd will also present the new print catalogue of its products, designed by studio Sonnoli. Since last year, with the appointment of Giulio Iacchetti as art director, the company has honed its focus on the world of design, involving new and outstanding talents: the catalogue now contains four new handles designed by Odoardo Fioravanti, Jaime Hayon, Enrico Martini and Inga Sempé.
Dnd celebrates its 50th birthday in 2018: the company, today with an eye on tomorrow, sets out to become a hotbed of ideas for Italian and international contemporary design, putting its research prowess and productive know-how at the service of the creativity of leading designers and architects.
